Description and Purpose of Event

The purpose of the contest is to promote the art of music through the medium of video. The Creative Video contest topic for 2021-2022 is: Benefits of Music Education

Eligibility

  1. Students must be enrolled in Student Affiliate before they can be entered in the TMTA SA Publication Contest.

  2. There is no theory requirement for this contest.

  3. Only students in grades 4-12 may participate.

Entry Deadline

Enrollment form/fee deadline: $15.00 by December 31, 2021 

Submission deadline:  December 31, 2021 

Use form at TMTA website; include photo release.

The event fee is $15 per entry.

Creative Video Contest Topic 2021-2022: Benefits of Music Education

General Information

  1. There are two categories: grades 4-8 and grades 9-12.

  2. Only one entry per student is allowed.

  3. Students may use any form of creative expression including, but not limited to: animation, photography, artwork, and live action to address the current year’s topic.

  4. All videos must be submitted in a video format.

    a.  Entries must be at least one minute and no more than two minutes long including credits, which should be no more than ten seconds.

    b.  The video may not have been submitted to any other contest or used for any other public purpose.

    c.  Professional (paid) assistance at any stage of the process is prohibited.

    d.  Entries must not contain content to which the student does not own all rights, title, and interest (or have a legal right to use).

    i.  Any elements appearing in a video, including but not limited to: stills, clip art, supers, music (lyrics and/or melody), or other materials must be the student’s own original work, created and performed by the student, or be in the public domain.

    ii.  Students must only use original or royalty-free music or music that is in the public domain in their video. Suggested sites for royalty-free music include www.royaltyfreemusic.com and www.incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free

    e.  Entries must be entirely in English and must be appropriate for viewing by a broad audience (no inappropriate visuals, language, or music).

    f.  Students will include a one paragraph artist statement at the end of the video describing how the video was created, what was their motivation, what influenced their work, etc.

  5. By submitting a video to this contest, students give TMTA license to copy, distribute, modify, display, perform publicly, and otherwise use and authorize others to use the video for any educational purpose and in any media, including broadcast.

  6. By submitting a video, you are agreeing to release TMTA from any liability.

Judging

  1. Videos will be judged on several criteria including creativity, audience appeal, music choices, editing, cinematography, visual design, sound design, originality, energy, relevance to the topic, and quality of production.

  2. Each video shall receive a rating of Outstanding, Excellent, or Good and a critique sheet with the judge’s remarks.

  3. A winning video for each category may be chosen.

Awards

The TMTEF Trustees supervise these awards.

  1. Each student will receive an Outstanding, Excellent, or Participation certificate.

  2. Winning and Outstanding certificates will be presented during the Publication Contest Awards Program at the TMTA Convention.

  3. Winning entries will be posted on the TMTA website.

  4. Cash awards:

Winner in Category 1 (grades 4-8) - $60

Winner in Category 2 (grades 9-12) - $70
