HMTA sponsors a wide variety of events for every musician in our community.

With the exception of the Piano Contest and the Chamber Music Contest, participation in events requires that a student is studying with a teacher who is a current HMTA member. Please talk with your teacher about joining HMTA.

HMTA Chamber Music & Piano Ensemble Contest
Encourages students to explore the realm of ensemble playing with their peers. Open to non-HMTA members.
Dorothy Kelly Scholarship Competition
Distinguishes outstanding performances of solo piano repertoire by students in their junior or senior year of high school.
Concerto Competition
Encourages high level performance of instrumental or vocal soloists with orchestra.
Conference Ensemble Auditions
Gives students a chance to perform in an exciting monster concert of piano ensembles at the TMTA State Convention in June.
HMTA Piano Contest
Through solo competitions, determines the most gifted young pianists. Open to non-HMTA members.
Performance Contest
Offers an occasion for students to compete for eligibility in the District Division of the TMTA Performance Contest.
Music Festival
Provides an opportunity to perform solo repertoire from memory in a non-competitive setting.
TMTA Original Composition Contest
Is your child interested in writing music? Would your child like the opportunity to premier his/her piece in front of an audience? If so, then think about participating in the HMTA / TMTA Composition Competition.
Baroque Celebration Concert
Winners from the Baroque Competition will perform in this special recital.
Baroque Competition
Provides a platform for young musicians to learn about the importance and richness of a great historic era.
Publication Contest
Encourages students to express themselves through writing about music.
Creative Video Contest
Encourages creativity in promoting music through the medium of videography.
Fort Bend Piano Competition
Invites all students who received a 1st place ranking at the HMTA Piano Contest to compete for cash awards.
Improvisation Workshop
Through various exercises, activities, and games, this workshop gives students tools for improving their improvisational skills at the piano.
