Teaches: Piano Compositions Jazz, Improvisation
Since graduating from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Music in composition and Master of Music in music theory, I have performed in a variety of pianistic roles, including rehearsal/orchestral pianist for opera productions, class accompanist for Houston Ballet Academy, staff accompanist for Lee College, San Jacinto College North & Lone Star College North Harris, recital accompanist for a variety of vocal & instrumental performances around Texas, and pianist/keyboardist with various jazz performers around Houston. I have also performed as Music Director for the HITS Theater School, teaching classes, arranging orchestral scores for keyboard & drums for class shows, and preparing chorus & orchestra and conducting company shows.
I have also been teaching since 1990 when I became a teaching assistant while pursuing my Master of Music degree at the University of Houston with Carlisle Floyd (piano & composition) and Dr. John Snyder (theory). This wet my appetite for teaching and led to teaching piano at the Kingwood Music School. That led to some students of my own. Upon moving to NW Houston in 1997, I began to focus more fully on private teaching.
I seek to discover and nourish my students' natural interests. I think this is very important and is really the proper foundation for a life-long relationship with music. What is built on that foundation is equally important. I want my students to acquire the skills & knowledge required to continue pursuing, develop and expand their natural interests.
My own interests, outside of music, include hiking, cooking & spending time with my wife. In music, I am interested in many types of music, as well as, music's history & origins, and how it works. Currently, I am most interested in jazz and jazz improvisation.
